  22. These problems seem deja vu to me. When I first got my GVC V.34 my ISP
  23. was using Sportsters with early ROM's and I had many of the same
  24. problems referred to in your post. After the Sportser ROMs were
  25. upgraded the problems went away.

  27. The ISP then added many new modems, rack mount Courier V.Everythings
  28. which seem fussier than most about the transmit level of calling
  29. modems. Unfortunately this is just another way of saying compatability
  30. problem.

  32. Fortunately, the transmit level of GVC Modems is adjustable. Perhaps
  33. you might like to try my init string which provides me with flawless
  34. operation. I assume you are using a SLIP/PPP connection although I use
  35. this string for all my comm connections starting with WFWG 3.11 and
  36. now Win95. The string is:

  38.     AT&F2&E1%L8S11=55
  39.  
  40. AT&F2 activates the default profile which should be the factory
  41. setting
  42.  
  43. &E1 enables automatic fall forward/backward which is off by default
  44.  
  45. %L8 raises the transmit level from the default of -12dBm to -8dBm. You
  46. can try various values between 8 & 14 to get the best connection.

  48. S11=55 speeds up tone dialing
