- These problems seem deja vu to me. When I first got my GVC V.34 my ISP
- was using Sportsters with early ROM's and I had many of the same
- problems referred to in your post. After the Sportser ROMs were
- upgraded the problems went away.
-
- The ISP then added many new modems, rack mount Courier V.Everythings
- which seem fussier than most about the transmit level of calling
- modems. Unfortunately this is just another way of saying compatability
- problem.
-
- Fortunately, the transmit level of GVC Modems is adjustable. Perhaps
- you might like to try my init string which provides me with flawless
- operation. I assume you are using a SLIP/PPP connection although I use
- this string for all my comm connections starting with WFWG 3.11 and
- now Win95. The string is:
-
- AT&F2&E1%L8S11=55
-
- AT&F2 activates the default profile which should be the factory
- setting
-
- &E1 enables automatic fall forward/backward which is off by default
-
- %L8 raises the transmit level from the default of -12dBm to -8dBm. You
- can try various values between 8 & 14 to get the best connection.
-
- S11=55 speeds up tone dialing
-
- Good luck.
